It is looked after by the Wildlife Reserves
Singapore and shares its border with Singapore Night Safari and Jurong Bird
Park. This zoo is specially designed so that the visitors come closest to the
animals in the safest way possible. It has a modern and an open kind of
displaying the wild animals in their natural habitats. There is hardly any cage
separating the visitors from the wild animals like the conventional zoo. They
are separated by hidden barriers, glass and moats. It does not even feel like
you are in a zoo. It is more like coming close to these animals in their
natural wild. This zoo has also the facility of rainforest platforms and wooden
bridges from where you will be able to watch the animals from a safe distance.
You will often find deer, creepy crawlies and a variety of cats roaming freely
around you.
This zoo located in a rainforest environment is
home to a number of rare species found in this planet. Some of these animals
are White Rhino, Clouded Leopard, the
extremely rare Bearcat, White Tiger, Manatee, Sun Bear, Sloth, Himalayan Thar
etc. These animals along with other endangered species are given very high care.
The Singapore Zoo has been able to carry many successful breeding of these rare
species. It is also the first zoo to breed a Polar bear in the tropical region.
Singapore Zoo is also an abode to the largest captive colony
of Orangutans. These Orangutans form one of the main attractions in here. They
are much famous among children and are loved by them. This huge zoo also offers
many trains, trams, boat, pony and horse carriage rides. You can enjoy a trip
through this zoo sitting in one of these rides.
This zoo also organizes a lot of animal shows
and programs for the entertainment of the visitors. The most famous and
fascinating is the “Breakfast with
Orangutans”. You can enjoy your breakfast with your family surrounded by
Orangutans. “The Rain Forests Fight Back”
is another interesting show to watch. The actors along with many animals
perform their act in the Shaw Amphitheatre. Other shows include “Elephants at work and play”, “Splash Safari” and “Animal Friends”. Feeding the animals
with special tokens is also available here. This zoo is also attached to a
River Safari which contains a huge collection of freshwater aquatic animals.
This zoo serves as an amusement park for kids.
The Rainforest Kidzworld will be the best place for your kids to hang out and
enjoy. This zoo opens at 8:30 am and
closes at 6 pm. Singapore zoo is a mere 30 min drive from the main city and you will find enough taxis and
buses connecting it with the main city. You can take the help of buses and taxis to
reach here. You can catch regular buses from some nearby MRT stations of Ang Mo
Kio, Chao Chu Kang, Woodland and Marsiling.
This place can be visited any time throughout
the year but the best time to visit this
place is during the off season. Try to avoid visiting Singapore zoo on
public holidays as well as during the peak tourist season. There will be a huge
rush of visitors during this time and you may face many problems due to the
crowd.
